ORIC Sample Batches

SAMPLE GROUP 1

Sound Effects

These samples contain Spoken clips (taken from many sources such as Monty Python and The Simpsons) and various other non-instrumental sounds.

SAMPLE GROUP 2

Instrumentals

Instruments such as Tuba, Violin and Pocks can be found here. Also many synthesised sounds exist, although taking up no less memory!

OFFSETS and General Information

It must be noted that, although all samples were originally recorded at 10Khtz, this does not then mean that they all play at the same Base frequency. They are different, and the differences are shown in the column marked OFFSET. This value refers to the number of semitones that the Sample is Out by and is relative to the closest C within an octave.

Also, since the work that I have done on setting the Offsets was done "By Ear", there may be variances that I haven't foreseen.

The offsets of Complex Sounds such as Voices and Percussion Instruments cannot so easily be determined. Drums and Snares are especially difficult but whilst this may be considered missed information, it is unlikely that such samples will sound out of sync if used with any track. Since by their very nature, they are not Pitch dependant.

This is one big reason why they consume very little memory or can be halved (See next paragraph) many times over to sound similar to the original without losing clarity.

Halving is a facility with SED of Sound Tracker (CTRL D) that simply re-samples the sound in steps of two. By doing so, the Pitch will be doubled (Octave higher) but the size will be halved. Some Clarity loss may be experienced since half the values will be lost.
